Take stock of your groups skills and expertise, and then re-examine if an engine is really needed. I just want to make sure that you don't choose a tool set and framework that will actually cause more problems than it fixes. That might sound really negative, but I want to clarify that I really like the Godot engine. So if they know other mobile development languages, frameworks, and tools, it probably would be quicker and easier to achieve it as a group. But if none of your group know Godot but already know some mobile app programming experience, it might be quicker and more convenient to try and do a simple RPG with the knowledge that your team already has. Godot is definitely a good fit for making a mobile 2D RPG app. One could be easier than the other, but both are still really difficult from the perspective of being a total beginner. The question you're asking is like saying "which is easier and quicker to learn for a complete beginner, learning to drive a car or learning to drive a motorcycle?". That benefited me hugely, and accelerated my adoption to the engine. I think Godot is pretty easy to pick up, but I came from a background of having some existing programming experience and knowledge. Of course some engines are easier to pick up and use (like Scratch), but they're limited to what they can achieve without some custom hacks. Well, if they don't have any experience with game engines then no matter the engine they choose, there is going to be a time consuming and difficult learning process.
